HINTON (WVVA) - Murder charges against a Summers County man accused of killing his wife have been dismissed.
Instead, 34-year-old Anthony Adkins was indicted Tuesday for malicious assault and child abuse resulting in injury.

Originally, Adkins was charged with murder after his wife, 36-year-old Heather Adkins of Pipestem, died while staying at a safehouse for abused women.
Sgt. T.J. Cochran said Heather Adkins was transferred to the safehouse after being beaten and sexually assaulted in her home by her husband.
The murder charge against Anthony Adkins was dismissed after the state medical examiner said Heather died of 'natural causes.'
