BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - The Bluefield Blue Jays have taken the first game of the 2012 Mercer Cup.
The Jays drew first blood against their cross-county rival Princeton Rays at Bowen Field Tuesday night, when a Dickie Thon hit to left center brought home the game's first run.
A wild pitch would allow a second runner to score. A two-run homer by Eric Arce would give the Jays a 4-0 lead, but the Rays would battle back.
Tied at 4 in the 8th inning, Alex Azor would score off an Art Charles hit to put the Jays on top for good. The final, 5-4.
