Glen Jean (WVVA) -The American Red Cross is seeking "hometown heroes." After a massive donation shortfall, the organization is desperately seeking help in refilling local blood banks.
The National Park Service at New River Gorge National River is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, July 26, 2012.
The blood drive will take place in the parking lot at the historic Glen Jean Bank (across from the post office and National Park Service headquarters) from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and is open to all members of the public.
Blood donors may stop by at any time during the drive. Or, to reserve a time slot, please call Robin Perry at: (304) 465-6503. Refreshments will be served; and this year, all presenting donors are eligible to win a 2011 Chevy Aveo and/or $500.00 in FREE GASOLINE.
The American Red Cross blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June.
This shortfall leaves the Red Cross with half the readily available blood products on hand now than this time last year, and every two seconds someone in America needs blood. For the nearly 5 million people who receive blood transfusions every year, your donation can mean the difference between life and death.
Giving blood is simple and convenient. If you are interested in becoming a hometown hero, but have never donated blood before, you'll find all the answers to your questions at the American Red Cross blood donation website: http://www.givelife.org
