WAR (WVVA) - Tom Hatcher, mayor of War in McDowell County, was found dead at his home Tuesday.
Hatcher's body was discovered after he failed to show up for work.
No foul play is suspected, but the body will be sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy.
Hatcher, a retired educator, obtained his PhD from Ohio State University. He worked at West Virginia University for several years before moving back to War in the early 1990s.
He had served as mayor since 1997.
Hatcher is survived by a son and two daughters. Funeral services are incomplete at this time.
