PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) -- Portsmouth police have identified an infant who died after his father left him in a minivan.

Police tell media outlets that 5-month-old Jeremy Rivera's father apparently forgot to drop him off at a child-care center on Friday morning. The father went to his job and didn't know the infant was still in the vehicle until Friday afternoon, when he left work and went to the child care center to pick up his son.

Commonwealth's Attorney Earle C. Mobley says he doesn't expect to file charges against the father. But the investigation is continuing.

The father's name hasn't been released.

A cause of death hasn't been determined. The infant's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Norfolk for an autopsy.
