PRINCETON (WVVA) - A Mercer County woman accused of fatally shooting her husband in North Carolina appeared in Mercer County Court Monday.
Melissa Rovnak, 44, is charged with killing her husband, Scott Rovnak, in Moore County North Carolina nearly 10 years ago.
A stay was issued by Judge Sadler during Monday's hearing, allowing the state of North Carolina additional time to complete necessary paperwork pertaining to Rovnak's extradition.
Sadler also denied defense motions requesting bond or home confinement for Rovnak.
During the initial investigation in Dec. 2002, Melissa Rovnak had told police that she and the couple's two children found Scott's body at their home after returning from a three-day trip.
Scott Rovnak was shot once in the back of the head.
The death was initially reported as a suicide, but no weapon was found.
Melissa Rovnak, was arrested in Mercer County in JuneMoore County, N.C., investigators developed new information in the case.
Melissa Rovnak was originally from Mercer County and had returned there following her husband's death.
