Hearing set for W.Va. man in torture, abuse case

RIPLEY, W.Va. (AP) -- A preliminary hearing is set for a West Virginia man accused of torturing his wife for years.

The hearing on a malicious wounding charge for 37-year-old Peter Lizon is scheduled for Friday morning in Jackson County Magistrate Court in western West Virginia. A court clerk says she expects the small courtroom in Ripley will be crowded for the high-profile case.

Stephanie Lizon reportedly fled her husband while they were at a store in Parkersburg on July 2 and turned up at a domestic violence shelter. There, a criminal complaint says, she detailed years of abuse.

Investigators say they have 45 photographs showing burns on her back and breasts from irons and frying pans, and scars on her wrists and ankles.

Peter Lizon's attorney says the allegations are false.
