June 29 storm cost W.Va. $14M to clear roads

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia spent $14 million to clear fallen trees and debris from hundreds of roads following a severe storm on June 29.

Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox tells the Charleston Daily Mail that he expects the federal government to pay about 75 percent of the bill.

Mattox says highway crews worked overtime in 53 of the state's 55 counties to reopen roads. Citizens across the state helped with the massive cleanup.

Mattox says Hancock and Brooke were the only counties that didn't have significant damage.
