BLUEFIELD -- Southern West Virginia has welcomed a Scout family from Conifer, Colorado to the region for an all-expense and West Virginia-attraction sponsored 6 day/5 night vacation.

"Visit Southern West Virginia" ran a photo contest for scouts in the July 2011 issue of Boys' Life Magazine for a scout and his family to vacation in southern WV. The winning family got a first-hand look of the region and experienced activities and adventures available to scouts and their families.

"The members of Visit Southern West Virginia were very generous and stepped up to the plate to exceed our expectations in donating all items we needed to make this a successful venture." said Kay Bess, Marketing Director of Visit Southern West Virginia.

Boy Scout Wyatt Guernsy and his family began their adventure by flying into West Virginia compliments of Yeager Airport in Charleston.

Ground transport for the week is being donated by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Harper Road location.  First on the agenda was a trip to Mercer County where they will be escorted by representatives from the Mercer County CVB to Princeton, Bluefield and Bramwell for a tour of those towns.  After a night at the Country Inn & Suites in Princeton, the family will be hosted by The Resort at Glade Springs.

While in Mercer County the scout and his family toured the historic town of Bramwell, the Princeton Railroad Museum, and Gary Bowling's House of Art. They will divide the rest of their trip experiencing activities in Raleigh and Fayette Counties.  The family will go whitewater rafting with River Expeditions, play mini-golf at Mountain State Mini Golf, tour the Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum, participate in a make and take project with artisans at Tamarack,  ziplining at Burning Rock, rappelling with Hard Rock Climbing Services and they will take in a Theatre WV performance at Grandview.

Meals provided by: Savory Haven, Key Ingredients, The Resort at Glade Springs, Tamarack, Pasquale's, Pies & Pints, Wild Flour Bakery and Diogi's Mexican Grill.

"We are so excited about this opportunity provided by Boys' Life to share our region with the scout and his family, says Kay Bess. With many, many scouts and families planning trips to West Virginia in 2013 and beyond we felt this was the perfect opportunity to get the word out and to create excitement about WV. This trip will be the family's first time in WV. "
