PROSPERITY (WVVA) - Police have not filed charges in the case of a Raleigh County man who was shot dead by a bow and arrow.

The Raleigh County Sheriff's Department says the decision was made not to file charges at this time after presenting their preliminary investigation to the prosecuting attorney's office.

Christopher Saunders Jr., 23, of Beckley was shot and killed after police said he and several other individuals approached a residence on Carmellia Street in Prosperity around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29.

An altercation ensued between the individuals and a group of individuals at the home. Police say the home owner shot Saunders with a bow and arrow.

Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner said the altercations appeared to be related to a previous altercation that occurred between the two groups the night before at an apartment complex on Industrial Drive in Beckley.

The case remains an open investigation. A final decision will be made pending the completion of the investigation and receipt of autopsy and lab reports.
