MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- A Falling Waters man faces 141 animal cruelty counts stemming from the seizure of 132 dogs and eight cats from his home.

Media outlets report that a Berkeley County magistrate arraigned 54-year-old Rocky Del Trolio on the misdemeanor charges Monday following a hearing on the June 19 seizure.

Berkeley County Animal Control officer Kevin Jones testified that the animals were dehydrated and underweight. They had mange and their fur was matted with feces. One dog had to be euthanized at the home.

Trolio testified that he tried to help other people find homes for their unwanted animals.

He said he took care of the animals. But the situation got out of control.

Trolio said he asked Animal Control and animal rescue agencies for help but he didn't receive any.
