PRINCETON (WVVA) - The man convicted of gunning down a Bluefield man outside a nightclub in 2009 will head back to trial.
Corey Samuel, 29, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 27-year-old Dwayne Steptoe outside Club Savoy in downtown Bluefield in September 2009.
Samuel was scheduled to be sentenced Monday but will instead face an Aug. 21 trial date so prosecutors can try him as a multiple felon.
During the May 2012 trial the jury recommended mercy for Samuel, but prosecutors say -- with five felony convictions in other states -- Samuel deserves a lengthy prison sentence.
Steptoe was killed by a single gunshot wound.
Samuel's trial lasted two days last May.
