CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Thousands still without electricity a week after violent storms in Virginia and West Virginia face more hot weather and possibly more storms.

Heat advisories are in effect Friday and Saturday for the Eastern Panhandle and the western half of West Virginia, from the Northern Panhandle to the southern coalfields. The National Weather Service says some areas could see severe thunderstorms over the weekend.

Heat advisories are in effect Friday and Saturday for much of the eastern half of Virginia.

The National Weather Service says Thursday's temperature in Richmond hit 102 degrees. The previous record was 101 set in 1990. Wallops Island saw 100 degrees. That broke the previous record of 98 set in 2010.

Lynchburg and Norfolk both tied records with 98 degrees. Danville also tied a record with 102 degrees.

In Roanoke, the temperature hit 99 degrees, one shy of the record 100 set in 1999.

Ninety-degree heat and storms this week have slowed efforts to restore power to people who lost electricity after the June 29 storm. There were 198,200 outages in West Virginia Friday morning, including 128,098 Appalachian Power customers and 70,102 FirstEnergy customers. That's down from more than 680,000.

Appalachian Power reports more than 65,000 outages in Virginia on its website Friday morning. Dominion Virginia Power reports more than 6,000 outages on its website.

State Farm reports more than 2,600 property damage claims and 720 automobile damage claims from West Virginians resulting from the June 29 storm.
