Tiger Woods
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS (WVVA) - Spectators were in awe at The Greenbrier Tuesday as one of the greatest golfers of all time made his first appearance in the Mountain State.
Tiger Woods arrived at the site of the 3rd annual Greenbrier Classic on Tuesday. Woods told the media in attendance it was his first visit to West Virginia. His only other connections to the Mountain State or the Greenbrier -- his freshman roommate at Stanford, and a two-hole match with the legendary Sam Snead when Woods was a child.
Woods' visit to the driving range brought silence from the spectators who gathered to watch. The practice outing was cut short by lightning.
Woods will be paired with Webb Simpson and Steve Stricker when he begins play at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday.
Defending tournament champion Scott Stallings tees off at 1:20 p.m. with Phil Mickelson and the winner of the inaugural Greenbrier Classic, Stuart Appleby.
