Beckley Water clarification on DHHR boil water advisory

Posted:
BECKLEY -- The recent statewide boil water advisory does not effect any of Beckley Water customers who never lost pressure. The primary locations in the Beckley Water Company service area that have experienced low water pressure or no water or cloudy water are the communities of Tilden and Midway. Any other areas which experience these conditions would also be under this advisory. All other locations in the Beckley Water Company service area are not under any boil water advisories at this time. The communities of Tilden and Midway will remain under a boil water advisory until normal operations can be restored. Please report any other outages for clarification.
DHHR Office of Environmental Health Services Director Barbara Taylor said, "Due to the statewide power outages, any area that had low water pressure, no water service or cloudy water is being placed on a Boil Water Advisory."
The advisory will remain in effect until the water service issues a notice lifting the advisory.
"Any section of an affected service area will be on a precautionary Boil Water Advisory until the water provider issues a notice that the advisory is lifted," Taylor said.
While the advisory is in effect, consumers are advised to boil their drinking water (a full rolling boil) for at least one minute prior to drinking, using for cooking, or hygienic purposes such as hand washing, bathing or teeth brushing.
