DUI Enforcement Team prepares for Operation Sting

Posted:

PRESS RELEASE:

Operation Sting 19 will be enforced along Route 19 in Region 7 on July 4, 5, 6, 7, 2012 by multiple city, county, and state law enforcement agencies. Sting 19 is a DUI Enforcement Crackdown on Route 19, historically a route with an increased number of alcohol related crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

Local agencies have been supplied additional funding by the SRHSP to increase DUI Patrols and Checkpoints along Route 19 in an effort to target those alcohol related numbers. Locally, agencies from Beckley PD, Raleigh CSO, WV State Police, Oak Hill PD, Fayetteville PD, Fayette CSO, Summersville PD, and Nicholas CSO will increase their patrols to crack down on impaired driving over the Independence Day Holiday time frame. The Beckley Police Department will also conduct a DUI Checkpoint on Route 19 on Friday July 6. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead if celebrating over the 4th of July and designate a sober driver. Please buckle up and drive safe- and remember that using a cell phone while driving is now against the law in WV.

This will be the third year for local agencies participating in Sting 19. This enforcement campaign is coordinated and funded by the Southern Regional Highway Safety Office.
