CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Utilities crews are slowly restoring electricity to thousands of customers in West Virginia but many areas remain without service.
More than 342,000 customers were without power Tuesday morning. That's down from more than 680,000 on Saturday, the day after violent storms swept across the state.
Highway crews continue to clear fallen trees and power lines from secondary roads. The West Virginia Department of Transportation says 20 roads were closed Tuesday morning, down from more than 70 on Monday.
The outages include 213,016 Appalachian Power customers and 128,095 customers of FirstEnergy subsidiaries MonPower and Potomac Edison.
More than 52,000 outages are in Kanawha County, the state's most populous.

AEP estimated that service would be restored to all residents in WVVA's viewing area by Sunday.

MonPower and Dominion Power, which provide electrical service to some in WVVA's viewing area, faced similar obstacles and also forecasted a several-day effort to restore service.
911 centers in every county reported widespread damage from fallen trees and blown debris Saturday. No counties have received reports of major injuries or deaths related to the storm.
West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell both declared a state of emergency. There were at least six confirmed fatalities in the Commonwealth.

Mercer County officials reported traffic delays as motorists from neighboring counties experiencing widespread power outages attempt to buy gasoline. Watch video
Shelters and cooling stations have been set up in several communities, with more to come as demand warrants, 911 dispatchers said.
Officials advise to check on any elderly neighbors you may have who are without power in Saturday's anticipated extreme heat.

The much-anticipated Second Chance Rocks the Two Virginias concert at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield was forced to be evacuated Friday due to the storm.

In Fayette County, an Amtrak train carrying more than 200 passengers to Chicago became blocked by downed trees. Read more
Water service was disrupted in several communities due to power failures. West Virginia American Water released a statement Saturday to dispel rumors of a statewide water shutdown.
At least one structure fire was reported Friday in the Green Valley area of Mercer County. Brush fires were reported in other areas.
There have been no official reports of tornadoes in the area. No tornado watches or warnings were issued by the National Weather Service during the weather event.
