Consol extends vacations at 2 W.Va. mines

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Annual miners' vacations at two Consol Energy mines in northern West Virginia are being extended.

Consol President Nicholas J. Deluliis attributes the extensions to a continued weak market for coal and environmental regulatory pressures on power companies that burn coal.

Pittsburgh-based Consol said Friday that miners' vacations at its Blacksville No. 2 mine will be extended for two weeks. Vacations at the Robinson Run mine will be extended for one week.

The company says the move will result in an estimated 300 tons of deferred production.

Two belt rehabilitation projects are planned at Blacksville No. 2 during the extended vacation period. Robinson Run mine will be maintained in a ready state.

Blacksville No. 2 has 585 workers, while Robinson Run Mine has 621.
