UNION -- On Thursday night Kevin Siers, Ed.D., was appointed principal at Christiansburg High School by the Montgomery County School Board. While superintendent at Monroe County Schools in West Virginia, Siers initiated a dropout prevention program that resulted in a 94% reduction in dropouts during the first year of implementation. During his time as principal at Bland High School, the school reached and maintained many academic goals including accreditation from the state, Adequate Yearly Progress, and accreditation from Advanced Ed.
"I am ready to return to the school environment," said Siers. "I have missed the energy and excitement that comes from interacting with students and teachers on a daily basis. Already, I have captured the Demon spirit that permeates throughout Christiansburg."
"Dr. Siers is ready to take CHS to the next level and will support new, dynamic experiences for the teachers and students in Christiansburg." said Brenda Blackburn, division superintendent. "His positive attitude and focus on student rigor will be the gateway to continued success for the CHS community."
Siers received his doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech in 2010. Most recently he served as the superintendent for Monroe County Schools in Union, West Virginia. Siers also served as the principal at Bland High School in Bastian, Virginia and was the assistant principal and director of transportation at Hickory High School in Hickory, North Carolina.
