Slain Buchanan Co. deputies, Va. Tech officer to be honored in Richmond

RICHMOND (WVVA) - Two Buchanan County sheriff's deputies and a Virginia Tech campus police officer killed in the line of duty in 2011 are among the fallen police officers that will be honored during a special service in Richmond Thursday evening.

Governor Bob McDonnell and leaders of Virginia's law enforcement community will pay tribute to a total of six law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in Virginia in 2011 during the annual Virginia Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Service.

The event will begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Department of Transportation Auditorium in Richmond.

The following law enforcement officers will be memorialized during the service:

  • Deputy Sheriff C. Neil Justus & Deputy Sheriff William E. Stiltner, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office. Deputies Justus and Stiltner were shot and killed while coming to the aid of their fellow deputies who had been fired upon by a sniper at the scene of a larceny in progress call on March 13, 2011.
  • Sergeant M.M. "Morty" Ford, City of Alexandria Police Department. Sergeant Ford died June 18, 2011, as a result of contracting Hepatitis C during a blood transfusion after being shot in the line of duty on Nov. 26, 1974.
  • Trooper Adam M. Bowen, Virginia State Police. Trooper Bowen was killed when his patrol car was involved in a collision while responding to a call in King George County on June 24, 2011.
  • Police Officer I Deriek W. Crouse, Virginia Tech Police Department. Officer Crouse was shot and killed during a traffic stop in the parking lot on the Virginia Tech campus on Dec. 8, 2011.Officer Timothy B Schock, City of Chesapeake Police Department. Officer Schock died during a training dive in the lake at Oak Grove Lake Park.
