Lewisburg, WV (WVVA) What has been known as West Virginia's largest 4th of July Celebration is now in the running for top honors.

Alderson, West Virginia is in the running for WV Living Magazine's Best Fourth of July Celebration contest. The public is invited to cast a vote daily for Alderson now through July 5th at WVLiving.com/Favorite-Fireworks-Vote.

WV LIVING Magazine's summer issue, which hit newsstands the first week of June, encouraged the public to go online and vote for their favorite Fourth of July celebration. Charleston, Fayetteville, Ripley and Wellsburg join the ranks with Alderson.

Alderson was nominated for the contest because of its long-standing history of hosting West Virginia's largest celebration. This year, Alderson will host "Star Spangled Fun," June 28 through July 5. The week-long schedule of events includes a 5K run/walk, Throttle Throbs car show, rubber ducky race, grand parade and fireworks display. Concessions, kid's activities and musical performances occur throughout the week. It is truly West Virginia's largest 4th of July Celebration!

"We are thrilled that Alderson is in the running for this contest," said Kara Dense, Executive Director of the Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Event coordinators have organized a wonderful schedule of activities this year that attendees of all ages will enjoy. Let's show them our support by voting daily to keep Alderson in the lead."

Touting itself as the premier statewide magazine that celebrates life in West Virginia, WV LIVING Magazine has earned significant recognition since bursting onto the scene just a few years ago. Beautiful photography and fascinating stories about both well-known and lesser-known places, people and activities across the state, have shed new light on West Virginia's fine attributes. The winner of the Best Fourth of July Celebration in WV contest will be featured in the magazine's Summer 2013 Commemorative issue which will celebrate the state's150th birthday.

"Our small towns are the lifeblood of our state," said WV LIVING Magazine's Editor, Nikki Bowman. "One of our missions at WV LIVING Magazine is to showcase our communities in a positive light, and we feel that by getting our towns and readers involved is just another way to promote what makes our state unique."
