Fayette Co. schools superintendent stepping down

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) -- Fayette County Schools Superintendent Dwight Dials is stepping down at the end of the month.

Dials has served as superintendent since February 2010. He was appointed following a state takeover of the school system.

The Register-Herald  reports that Dials announced resignation in a June 6 letter to state Superintendent of Schools Jorea Marple. He cited family obligations.

Dials tells the newspaper that it's time to focus his attention on helping his children, grandchildren and parents.

Dials previously oversaw school systems in Mingo, Raleigh and Morgan counties during a career that began in 1966 as a teacher in Kanawha County.

State Department of Education spokeswoman Liza Cordeiro says Marple will appoint a new superintendent.
