PRINCETON (WVVA) - A woman wanted in the 10-year-old murder of her husband faces extradition back to North Carolina after being arrested in Mercer County.
Melissa Lynn Rovnak, 44, is being held without bond on a fugitive from justice charge at Southern Regional Jail following her arrest in Princeton Monday.
Rovnak was wanted for murder the Dec. 29, 2002, death of her husband, 46-year-old Scott Michael Rovnak at their Aberdeen, N.C., residence.
Moore County Sheriff Lane Carter said in a press release that deputies were recently able to obtain additional evidence in the nearly 10-year-old investigation that resulted in a warrant being issued for Melissa Rovnak, charging her with murder.
Rovnak did not waive extradition. She is scheduled to go before Judge Sadler in Mercer County on July 16.
According to a previous report from The Pilot newspaper, Scott Rovnak was found shot dead in the family's home by his wife and two children on Dec. 29, 2002. The family had apparently left on a trip three day's before.
The death was initially ruled a suicide, but no weapon was found.
