Former Rainelle Mayor in Court on Ethics Complaint

Posted:

LEWISBURG (WVVA) - A former mayor of Rainelle finds himself in court Monday after multiple ethics complaints surface nearly two-years after his term as Mayor ends.

Eugene McKenzie is accused of using town equipment, vehicles and personnel for his own monetary benefit.

Members of the "Probable Cause Review Board of the West Virginia Ethics Commission" unanimously voted in 2009 that probable cause was found that McKenzie had violated 6b-2-5 of the West Virginia Code.

Now his case is being heard in front of the commission.

The first claim states that McKenzie violated an ethics code by using city vehicles, and equipment to replace a sidewalk in front of his family owned business, Helig Myers, located on Main Street in Rainelle. He states that this was done so without approval from town council or without reimbursement to the town.

Various other claims state the Mckenzie used town equipment, vehicles and personnel for his own private use of his construction business Mckenzie Specialty Company without town council approval or repayment to the town.

The hearing was continued through Tuesday at the Greenbrier County Courthouse.
