Camp Joy accepting scholarship donations

Posted:

BLUEFIELD Va. -- Since 2007 Clinch Valley Community Action's (CVCA) Camp Joy has hosted over 600 summer campers for day and overnight programs through the generous support of the community – countless volunteer hours and the support of local individuals and civic, community, business and faith-based organizations. This year promises to bring as much outdoor fun, friendships and new experiences as ever for campers from ages 6 to 15.  Spaces are still open for both day and overnight programs for all age groups.

With unfailing community support, CVCA has been able to keep the cost of camp the same for the last six years.  A donation to the agency may qualify for additional tax consideration through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), a special tax credit program designed for non-profit community service organizations to leverage local support more effectively.  NAP allows individuals and businesses to receive an additional reduction in their state taxes owed of 40% of their contribution.  This is above and beyond the full deduction to their taxable amount.  Donations of $500 (or more) for an individual or $1,000 (or more) for a corporation would generate $200 and $400 tax credits respectively.  Tax Credits that exceed the donor's total Virginia State tax liability may be carried forward for up to five years. **

Four weeks of camp are on board for 2012.  Overnight camp for children ages 7-12 will be held the weeks of July 8-12 and July 15-19.  Day Camp will be held for ages 6-12 July 23-27.  This is the second year for Senior Overnight Camp for ages 12-15 which will be held July 29 – August 3.  Camp activities include a variety of group and sporting activities along with weekly camp dances and talent shows, karate classes, off-campus movies, pet first aide classes and more.  Overnight camp is $100 per camper; day camp is $60 per camper.  The majority of participants have attended Camp Joy on a full or partial scholarship, and both will once again be available in 2012.  Applications are available at CVCA's North Tazewell office located at 200 East Riverside Drive in North Tazewell and on-line at www.clinchvalleycaa.org.

Any organization, church, business or individual wishing to help sponsor a child, or anyone needing additional information is asked to contact Susan White, Camp Joy Director at (276) 988-5583, ext. 210.

** Determining the impact tax credits may have on a donor's tax liability is the responsibility of the donor. Donors are encouraged to seek advice from a tax professional before making a donation for tax credits or when tax-related questions occur.
