For the second time in school history, Greenbrier East is the girls basketball AAA State Champions.
The Spartans defeated Bridgeport 52-47 in the finals Saturday night in Charleston.
Leading the Spartans was Biana Andre who finished with 13 points. Cheyenne Hooper contributed with a double-double putting up 11 points and grabbing 11 boards. She also had 5 blocks.
East trailed after the first, second and third quarters but in the end the Spartans outscored the Indians 52-47 which led to the first state title since 1981.
Greenbrier East shot 44 percent from the floor compared to Bridgeport's 35. Indians leading scorer was Miki Glenn with 18 and Courtney Small had 15 all coming from her five three pointers.
