Suspect charged with voluntary manslaughter in Harris' death

LEWISBURG (WVVA) - The man arrested in the altercation that led to the death of Ira Harris has been charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Antonio Dewayne Smith was formally charged during a hearing in Greenbrier County Wednesday. The previous charge of malicious wounding was dropped.

Smith is being held on $50,000 bond at Southern Regional Jail.

Police say Harris and Smith were involved in an altercation in the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 26, that resulted in Harris being pushed down a flight of stairs.

Harris was pronounced dead days later as a result of the injuries.
