James Franco to Direct Film in Greenbrier County

GREENBRIER CO. (WVVA)- West Virginia will yet again be home to movie makers this year. This time Greenbrier County is taking their turn in the spot light.

Actor James Franco (Spider Man, Spider Man 2, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) has announced that he will be directing "Child of God." Franco is adapting this story from the novel by Cormac Macarthy who is best known for his previous novel, "No Country for Old Men."

According to the West Virginia Film Office, the story takes place in the 1950's in the mountains of Tennessee. They say it is the story of a man who is living in destitution after losing his family farm who then attempts to exist outside his town and social order. In a series of disastrous attempts, he slowly falls deeper into crime and degradation. Until he surrenders.

The movie is scheduled to be filmed in February, but movie makers are already in town and bringing in revenue for the community.

"They are staying in our hotels and eating in our restaurants and that is very helpful in an off season," Rachael Stebbins of the Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center said.

Local talent can even get a chance to be in the film. Anyone interested can send 2 to 3 photos to cog.wv.casting@gmail.com
