Concord University presents contemporary quartet Cordis

ATHENS, W.Va. - Concord University's Performing Artist Series is presenting the contemporary quartet Cordis on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center's Main Theater.  The Fine Arts Center is located on Concord's Athens, W.Va., campus at 1000 Vermillion Street.

Cordis achieves a unique sound by combining custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments, including one-of-a-kind creations like the electric mbira, a melodica, and the world's longest playing cylinder-driven music box.  The eclectic ensemble features Jeremy Harman on cello, concert cimbalom Richard Grimes, Oscar Rodriguez on piano, and Andrew Beall on percussion.  

In addition to their performance at Concord University, Cordis will be performing at numerous venues in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Boston, and New York City during their 2011-12 concert season.  Other stops in West Virginia include performances in Beckley, Williamson, Elkins, Morgantown, and Wheeling.

Cost of admission to the Cordis Performing Artist Series event is $5.  Tickets for faculty, staff, and students of Concord University, as well as students of other schools, have been paid for by student fees and the state of West Virginia.  Tickets may be reserved through the Fine Arts Box Office by visiting, calling (304) 384-5101, or emailing  The Box Office will open for ticket sales and pick-up one hour prior to the concert on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m.
