The Pet Haven Rescue Center is a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill animal rescue facility located in Falls Mills, VA. They may sound familiar, because Debbie is on WVVA News at Noon nearly every Friday with a different adoptable pet. The Pet Haven is about 5 times smaller than the Mercer & McDowell County shelters and can only take in so many animals. Like Debbie has mentioned, the Pet Haven can not take in strays or unwanted pets, so they rescue dogs and cats that are on the 'chopping block' at kill shelters. The director is actually the main caretaker of these animals and is constantly on the move trying to get these rescued animals a good home.
The Pet Haven functions on donations mostly... and because of this, their staff is all volunteer. They would obviously rather have people adopt their animals but if you are unable to help that way, you can donate cat/dog food, blankets, bleach, floor cleaner, dish soap, trash bags, paper towels, litter, etc.
The Pet Haven has a store in Falls Mills-across from the Post Office-called "Claws and Paws" and Debbie is usually out at the Bluefield Flea Market on most Saturdays. However, with the cooler weather approaching, Debbie will be setting up shop at the Four Seasons Indoor Flea Market located outside of Tazewell on Rt. 460. By going to the Flea Markets you can actually see these cuties, but you can also view them online by going to www.Petfinder.com/shelters/va209.
WVVA continues to help Debbie and the Pet Haven find homes for these stranded and unloved animals. You can check out Debbie live every Friday on WVVA News at Noon!
