The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC announced Monday it received a pledge of $5,000 to the UBB Miners Memorial project in the form of a challenge grant from SCP Engineering. John Stahura, COO of the North Carolina based conveyor products company, challenged other companies within the bulk materials handling and mining equipment industries to match SCP Engineering's donation to the memorial project. "We at SCP are grateful that we can participate in a memorial that will eulogize our friends and fellow miners, who lost their lives in the UBB explosion, for perpetual generations. I would challenge all businesses that supply the coal industry to help fund this worthy cause," said Mr. Stahura.
Stahura Conveyor Products specializes in bulk materials handling and is partnered with Martin Engineering. SCP executives played a pivotal role in connecting the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group with Martin Engineering who donated $25,000 to the memorial project last month. It was the memorial project's first corporate contribution. "We appreciate the support and encouragement we are receiving from Stahura Conveyor Products, both financial and technical. They were the first local business to contact us and offer assistance and were instrumental in securing the donation from Martin Engineering," said UBBMMG President Sheila Combs.
Stahura Conveyor Products is head quartered in Lewisville, NC and has a local office in Sylvester, WV. SCP Engineering makes bulk materials handling cleaner, safer, and more productive, with engineered conveyor systems.
The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) established in February of 2011 to raise funds to construct a memorial plaza located in Whitesville, WV. The memorial will commemorate the events that occurred at UBB, pay homage to all fallen coal miners and recognize the importance of the coal mining industry to the Mountain State.
SCP executives will host a ceremony to present checks from SCP Engineering and Martin Engineering to the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC on Wednesday, June the 8th at 10am at the SCP office in Sylvester, WV.
