MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia University basketball coach Bob Huggins says Dalton Pepper has asked for his release so he can transfer to another school.

The 6-foot-5 sophomore guard from Levittown, Pa., played two seasons for the Mountaineers. He averaged 3.9 points per game last season, and 3.1 during his freshman year.

Huggins says Pepper called him Tuesday afternoon and asked that he be released.

Huggins says he will grant Pepper's request so he can transfer to a school closer to home.
