ATHENS, W.Va. – Princeton, W.Va. native and Concord alum Kevin Powell will be the keynote speaker for Concord University's Annual Alumni Banquet Friday, May 13, 2011. A successful North Carolina businessman, Powell has achieved acclaim in the world of motorsports as a dealership owner and on the track.
The banquet begins at 6 p.m. in the Jerry L. Beasley Student Center Ballroom. A Reception and Alumni Gathering will be held prior to the meal from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the John and Lucia Pais Family Fellowship Hall in University Point.
Powell graduated from Concord in 1989 with a degree in business administration. He currently lives in Winston-Salem, N.C. and owns and operates three successful automobile and motorsports dealerships in Pilot Mountain, N.C., Greensboro, N.C. and Winston-Salem. He has recently received several national dealership awards.
Powell's professional race team competes on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Pro All Star Series across the southeast. Voted the most popular driver on the circuit, he has won more than 70 feature races and two track championships.
The Concord University Alumni Association will present three awards at the banquet:
Outstanding Alumnus, Golden Alumnus and Alumnus of the Year. Concord's Class of 1961 celebrates its 50th reunion this year and will be recognized during the evening.
