Va regulators studying Verizon service complaints

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia regulators are investigating an unusually large number of complaints about the Verizon's repair service for land line customers.

The State Corporation Commission says it plans to hold a hearing Dec. 14 to discuss whether Verizon is devoting sufficient resources to maintain reasonable adequate service quality.

Verizon says the average number of out-of-service complaints has been about 100 per month this year, though the problems spiked to unacceptable levels in the summer months.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Verizon says it has taken steps to correct the problem. And officials say customer complaints have come down significantly since that time.

The SCC says it continues to receive complaints from customers and government officials about the service.
