Police look for answers in case of infant who is now brain dead

Posted:

Investigators in Bluefield, Virginia are looking into what happened to a five month old baby boy who is now clinically brain-dead.

The infant is currently on a ventilator at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and police say the prognosis does not look good.

Investigators say that both the mother and the babysitter were present at the time the call was placed to 911.

Emergency personnel responded to a report of a baby who was blue in the face and un-responsive on Tuesday at Crescent View Apartments in Bluefield, Virginia. The five month old boy was immediately transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to Roanoke Memorial.

Police have questioned the parents and the babysitter about what happened.

One neighbor says she was shocked to learn the tragic news.

"She is my next door neighbor and I knew the baby. It is a nice place to live up here. It had calmed down a whole lot.  I hate to see that little baby go through what he is going through and my heart goes out to the family, says Crescent View neighbor Erica Mack.

No charges have been filed thus far but the case is considered ongoing.

Police say that more information will be made available in the next couple of days.
