SUMMERS COUNTY (WVVA)-A firefighter is killed in a fire that destroyed her own home in the Meadow Creek area of Summers County.  The fire started around 4:30am.  Thirty-nine year old Shawnna Toth died in the fire.  Her husband and 12-year-old son were able to escape.

Shawnna Toth had been a member of the Green Sulphur District Volunteer Fire Department since June of 2005.  She held many certifications including her Fire Fighter I and II, First Responder, Hazardous Material Awareness, Vehicle Rescue Operations, ATV Extrication and Water Rescue Awareness.

"It was flipping everybody out knowing that Shawnna herself could get out and it was just, we couldn't believe it. We just couldn't believe it," said neighbor and witness Jeff Ward.

Investigators continue to search for the cause of the fire.
