Plaque dedicated in slain VaTech student's honor

Posted:

A plaque has been dedicated at a bridge where a 20-year-old Roanoke woman was last seen alive one year ago at a concert at the University of Virginia.

The Daily Progress reported Morgan D. Harrington's parents and university officials unveiled the plaque on Sunday.

Her father, Dan Harrington, said that if one person had intervened, his daughter would still be alive.

She disappeared Oct. 17, 2009, after leaving a Metallica concert in Charlottesville. The Virginia Tech education major's remains were found in January several miles away on an Albemarle County farm. No arrests have been made.

After the dedication, the university screened a documentary, "A Gift for the Village." It was filmed by one of Harrington's mentors at Virginia Tech.
