Remembering Upper Big Branch, 6 months later

Posted:

Dozens of people gathered Tuesday night in Whitesville, WV to participate in ceremony honoring the miners who died in the Upper Big Branch explosion.  There was a prayer service with a special candlelight portion where 29 candles were lit, honoring each miner.  The candles will stay lit for eight days signifying the 8 days following the explosion.

Congressman Nick Rahall joined the family and friends gathered at the makeshift memorial site.  Organizers hope to build a permanent memorial in the future.
