Our Environmental Commitment

From our start as a small cabinet shop, to our position as a cabinet industry leader, taking personal responsibility for the environment and the safety of our customers and employees has always been central to our culture and every bit as important as our style.

The focus at every KraftMaid facility is to produce beautiful products with superior quality and great style. But our commitment is to achieve that goal while also keeping our commitment to the environment.

We understand that the decisions we make are made not simply for the bottom line, but for our loved ones, for our planet and for our future.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

Through every stage of our cabinetry process, from sourcing and manufacturing to finishing and shipping, KraftMaid is always focused on The Three R's - reduce, reuse and recycle. We continually monitor our environmental impact by:

  1. Using energy efficient technology and purchasing wood products in optimum dimensions help us to attain the highest yield possible from every raw material board.
  2. Using only Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) particle board that includes a percentage of recycled material.
  3. Incinerating Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) from our finishing operations to reduce the level of VOC's released into the environment.
  4. Incorporating environmental impact considerations into every new product decision.
  5. Using sawdust from our operations in other KraftMaid products that contain recycled material, such as composite decking.
  6. Incorporating recycling efforts in every part of our company, from the factory to the office, from fiber to foam, cleaning products to solvents, cardboard, paper, wood, sawdust and steel.

Community Involvement - "Built To Order"

At KraftMaid, we believe in making a direct and positive impact at every level, through support of our local communities and communities around the country.

In addition to donating product to a number of local, national and global outlets including Habitat for Humanity and Extreme Makeover Home Edition, we also have a direct involvement with charities and institutions and support employees who donate their time and energy to good work.

Considering the World Tomorrow, Today

Whether you're an architect, builder or homeowner, choosing KraftMaid cabinetry not only assures you a better long-term investment in quality, style and functionality for your home, but it demonstrates your commitment to protecting the environment.

  1. KraftMaid is proud to have earned certification in the Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) administered by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturer's Association (KCMA) for manufacturers who meet a stringent set of environmental criteria. As an ESP-certified company, we proudly display the ESP seal on all of our products.
  2. KraftMaid meets or exceeds the Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) cabinetry requirements for inclusion in the Environments For LivingĀ® Certified Green program. In short, this means that builders can use KraftMaid cabinetry with confidence knowing that they are promoting better overall indoor air quality.
  3. KraftMaid cabinetry uses Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) particle board. Procurement and usage of EPP particle board helps to drastically decrease the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can off-gas over time within the home.

EPP Downstream Program

KraftMaid is proud to have earned certification in the Composite Panel Association's Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) Downstream Program.

The EPP Downstream Program logo helps consumers easily identify companies that are manufacturing environmentally responsible products.

When you see the EPP Downstream logo you know that the products have met the rigorous requirements of the CPA EPP Downstream Program, the most widely-specified environmental certification program for composite wood products in North America.  The EPP Downstream program has achieved ANSI accreditation and all products:

  1. Require use of 100% recycled or recovered wood fiber.
  2. Require formaldehyde emissions to be equal to or lower than CARB Phase I levels.
  3. Require ongoing participant testing of formaldehyde emissions.
  4. Require monthly audits to verify recycled content, formaldehyde emissions, and adherence to QC procedures that meet ASTM protocol.
  5. Require quarterly submission of samples for large chamber testing by an accredited third party.

At KraftMaid, we are proud of our certification in the EPP Downstream Program.  We take seriously our commitment to preserving our environment and are pleased to join such a worthy program.
