Frustrated workers demand answers

Welch, W.Va. (WVVA)- Dozens of frustrated and angry Ambulance Authority workers gathered outside the County Commissioner's office in Welch, after they didn't get paid on payday Wednesday.

Employees were hoping to speak with commissioners during a regularly scheduled meeting Thursday morning, but since the issue wasn't on the agenda, workers weren't able to ask why their checks had not been distributed.

"We don't have the money to keep putting into the Ambulance Authority," says commissioner, A. Ray Bailey. "We're going to have to come up with some answers."

"We're tired of broken promises, and we want action," says David Hicks. "We're down to our last straw."

"Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day, but I have children who need clothes, food, and I need a paycheck like everybody else," says Kimberly Proffitt.

Employees say they're patience is running thin, and they just want to get paid. Some are questioning whether they will even return to work.

A special meeting is being scheduled for commissioners to discuss the future of the Ambulance Authority. Bailey says paychecks are on the way, but it's unknown when the workers will actually get paid.
