BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A painting titled "Grandma's Hands" will be unveiled March 19 during a celebration of singer/songwriter Bill Withers' life and career at Tamarack in Beckley.
Withers commissioned the painting by artist Ernie Barnes. The painting will be displayed at the artisan center.
The Slab Fork native also has donated his original handwritten lyrics for the song of the same title.
The celebration is co-sponsored by the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. Withers was inducted into the hall in 2007.
Hall of fame director Michael Lipton says the celebration also will include a screening of the documentary "Still Bill."
Withers will not be in attendance but the Slab Fork native's music will be performed.
