NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Newport News police are investigating the death of a 17-month-old girl who had signs of abuse.
Emergency room workers at Mary Immaculate Hospital called police Monday night and reported the possible abuse. A 2-year-old sister also had signs of abuse.
Police said Friday that the younger child was transferred to Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, where she died Thursday evening.
The 2-year-old was treated and released. She and a 2-month-old brother are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
None of the children were identified.
Police say the case will be presented to prosecutors for review.
