PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - Portsmouth police are increasing patrols in several neighborhoods and urging residents to lock doors and windows following a series of sexual assaults.
Police say four women have reported being sexually assaulted in the past nine months. The most recent attack occurred Sunday.
The assaults occurred in the victims' homes in neighborhoods off West Norfolk Road. The victims are ages 65 to 87.
Detective Jan Westerbeck says the attacks have similarities but police haven't concluded that they're related.
Virginia Beach Master Police Officer Adam Bernstein says two similar cases have been reported in his city and police are investigating whether they're connected to the Portsmouth assaults.
