PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia governors apparently don't see the holiday season as the reason to issue pardons to state inmates.
State Archivist Debra Basham says hundreds of convicts have received pardons, but records show few, if any, were done in the spirit of the yuletide.
Gov. Joe Manchin appears to follow that pattern.
Manchin spokesman Matt Turner says the governor makes no special provisions for Christmastime pardons.
Manchin receives between 50 and 100 pardon requests each year, and Turner says the governor only considers requests from individuals convicted of nonviolent offenses who live a nonviolent lifestyle.
