Kaine to assess Va storm damage

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Tim Kaine's plan to assess storm damage in Hampton Roads is still on, despite cloudy weather that canceled a planned flyover.

The governor's office said he will still make stops in Hampton and Norfolk on Saturday, traveling by ground transportation instead of by helicopter.

Kaine will find some improvements since heavy rains and winds lashed the region.

The James River Bridge reopened Friday night after being closed Thursday in anticipation of the storm. Meantime, ferry service has resumed at the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry. High tides had caused service to be suspended.

Dominion Virginia Power said 35,290 customers remain without power. At the storm's peak, nearly 180,000 customers were without power.
