Bluefield (WVVA) - A Mercer County teacher's aid has been charged with sexual abuse involving a student.

40-year-old Courtney Wallace of Bluefield was arrested on Wednesday by the West Virginia State Police.

Wallace is charged with two counts of sexual abuse by a custodian and two counts of third degree sexual abuse.

The charges stem from allegations made Monday by a student at the Alternative School on Roger Street in Bluefield.

Mercer County School Superintendent Deborah Akers has released the following statement:

"Accusations of improper conduct were made against an employee. The Superintendent conducted an investigation and as a result of the evidence obtained from the investigation the employee has been terminated. We will continue to cooperate with the State Police in this investigation."

Wallace is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.
