MULLENS – Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: CLF) (Paris: CLF) announced today that it will donate up to $25,000 to The Way Youth Center, near Mullens, WV. Cliffs made a $15,000 donation to the Center in the first quarter 2011, and has pledged up to $10,000 additional support through a matching grant.
"Since purchasing the Pinnacle Mine complex in 2007, it has become clear that the youth of Wyoming County represent a significant resource for the state of West Virginia and a source of pride for their parents and teachers," said Jim Kosowski, District Manager of Public Affairs for Cliffs. "Our support for The Way Youth Center is designed to provide a unique recreational resource that supplements what they learn at home and in school. The Way will provide a safe, supportive environment for socializing and fun activities."
"Cliffs has been impressed by the grassroots support for The Way Youth Center from leaders throughout the community and by the students who will benefit from the Center," Kosowski said. "Because of that support, we have decided to match up to $10,000 of additional money that will go toward completing the renovation of the Center. Cliffs will provide a dollar-for-dollar match for donations in support of the program, up to $10,000."
Mark Robinson, President of The Way Youth Center, said donations to The Youth Center will go toward purchasing building supplies, furnishings, games and sports equipment for the youth center. All labor has been provided free of charge from volunteers, both locally and from Florida.
"We want to thank Cliffs Natural Resources for their generous support for this program and for everything they do for the youth of Wyoming County," said Robinson. "I also want to ask the community to help us take advantage of the $10,000 matching grant. In the weeks ahead you can expect students from throughout Wyoming County requesting your help in meeting our goal."
