When one local pantry tag teamed an event with an unusual partner to help restock the bare shelves, the boost was exactly what was needed to help those in need in our community.
The Bluefield Union Mission and the Cole Auto Group teamed up with Championship Wrestling to hold a canned food drive and was able to load up a truck full of food.
Organizers estimate the load to be worth about $1,000, with most donations coming from employees. The Cole Auto Group challenges those in the community to not overlook the need in our area, especially near the holidays.
"Certainly the pantry has been low...the lowest a lot of people have seen it before," says Mark Warner with the Cole Auto Group. "It means a lot of folks in the community [will] be able to depend on the Union Mission and the other pantries around town to be able to get food when they need it the most."
As a reminder, WVVA will start its 20 Days of Giving campaign this week. Details are coming soon.
