A local woman is honored for her work in helping area residents file their taxes.
At a recent banquet, Marcella Hood was awarded the inaugural William D. "Bill" Goodman VITA Volunteer Award.
Bill Goodman was a professor at Bluefield State College and coordinator of the VITA program there for 17 years.
VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Hood has volunteerd for the program for 25 years.
This tax season, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at the Bluefield State College site alone prepared 520 returns for a total refund amount of more than $260,000.
