Man pleads guilty to killing wife, unborn child

The Mercer County man accused of strangling his pregnant wife to death has plead guilty to first-degree murder.

31-year-old Joshua Goodman entered into a plea agreement Wednesday in circuit court to one count of first-degree murder in the death of Sarah Terry Goodman and one count of second-degree murder in the death of her unborn child.

Joshua Goodman waived his right to a sentencing investigation and Judge William Sadler sentenced Goodman to life in prison plus an additional 40 years.

In court, Goodman said that he was sorry and that he would like to take it back if he could.

Sarah Terry Goodman was reported missing by family members in early December.

Two weeks later, Goodman confessed to police that he choked his wife to death while they were living at a Mercer Street residence in Princeton.

Following her death, Goodman then wrapped her body in a bag and dumped her in a wooded area off Brickhouse Road.

Goodman was aware that his wife was pregnant at the time of the crime.

The mother of the victim, Barbara Terry, brought pictures of Sarah to court and read a statement saying that Sarah had been worried about her safety.

Sarah's brother, had this to say about the sentencing.

Sarah's brother, James Terry said that, "after 169 days he finally cracked down and said that he was sorry, but there is no real apology for such a thing, and I personally will never be able to accept it.  It's a pretty fair sentencing, as far as it could be. Personally I would like to see two counts of first-degree murder."

The guilty plea came with a recommendation of mercy.

Goodman will have to spend a minimum of 25 years behind bars before being eligible for parole.
